Goal: Participants will learn how to use Eriksonian and Cognitive Behavioral treatment methods to help children and adolescents.
Objectives: 1. Participants will learn how to identify and make use of events which activate motivation in children and adolescents.
2. Participants will learn how to use empathy as a tool for work with children and adolescents.
3. Participants will learn how to modify and change client beliefs to assist children and adolescents to resolve their difficulties.
4. Participants will learn how to induce and use mini-trances with children and adolescents.
Methods: Lecture, handouts, power point presentation, case presentation, case discussion and live demonstrations.
Presenter: Joseph Sestitio, MSSA LISW-S completed his Master of Science in Social Administration (MSSA) at Case Western Reserve University in 1992. He has 10 years of leadership experience in a residential treatment center specializing in the treatment of children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral problems. He has 15 plus years of experience working with adults as a psychotherapist or coach. He is an expert in cognitive behavioral therapy and Eriksonian approaches in psychotherapy, and has written and presented extensively in these areas. Joseph has presented workshops at the last four Brief Therapy, Lasting Solutions Conferences, sponsored by The Milton H. Erickson Foundation. Joseph has also presented a five-day symposium at the internationally renowned Cape Cod Institute on the application of Cognitive Behavioral and Eriksonian Methods that he pioneered to more effectively treat children, adolescents, and adults.
