Goal: Participants will learn how to identify and assess sexual behaviors in children, and how to provide psychotherapeutic services to children who self-injure and have been sexually abused.
Objectives: 1. Participants will learn how to use five criteria to assess sexual behavior in children.
2. Participants will learn how to assess sexual reactivity in children and assess children who molest.
3. Participants will learn how to provide psychotherapeutic services with clients who self-injure.
4. Participants will learn how to develop safety plans for children and create techniques for encouraging sexual abuse awareness.
Methods: Lecture, handouts, power point presentation, case presentation, case discussion.
Presenter: Laura Ellsworth, MA LMHC is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with 20 years of experience and the author of “Choosing To Heal”. She is in private practice in Evansville, Indiana and is a Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Southern Indiana. She has developed and facilitated programs that aid in the treatment of child sexual abuse victims and has experience educating a wide range of professionals including mental health, healthcare and education professionals. Her therapeutic work with this area has also included groups which focus on specific areas of child sexual abuse. Laura has hosted a live weekly mental health program with ABC-TV affiliate WEVV. She has also provided scores of television, radio and newspaper interviews and is a frequent expert witness in sexual abuse trial proceedings.
