Goal: Goal: Participants will learn how to identify the stresses and adjustments impacting a family when caring for an older adult, promote positive communication and manage the impact on caregivers.
Objectives: Objectives: 1. Participants will how to recognize common losses that impact the elderly and their families.
2. Participants will learn how to assess the needs of the elderly to include emotional functioning and effective communication.
3. Participants will learn how to promote positive communication when working with families.
4. Participants will learn how to manage the stress of care-giving and recognize how care-giving responsibilities contribute to family dynamics.
5. Participants will learn how to teach the importance of self care as it relates to the stress of care-giving.
Methods: Methods: Lecture with Power Point, interactive discussions, handouts.
Presenter: Presenter: Judi Fischer MA, PCC-S is a therapist, consultant and adjunct college instructor. She is the President of Lakeshore Educational & Counseling Services, with offices in Vermilion and Seven Hills, Ohio. Judi has a B.S. in Education and a MA in Clinical Pastoral Counseling. She is licensed by the state of Ohio as a Professional Clinical Counselor with supervisory designation. In her private counseling practice Judi sees children, adolescents, adults, couples and families experiencing grief and loss, life transitions, depression, anxiety, relational conflicts, self esteem difficulties, spiritual concerns and stress related problems. She teaches Professional Communication locally for Business and Management Programs and offers educational and interactive workshops on a wide range of topics for professionals, community organizations, businesses, schools and churches. Judi is a member of the American Counseling Association, the Ohio Counseling Association, the American Association for Christian Counselors, active in her local church and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
